I am deeply honoured to serve as the Headmistress of PM SHRI Government High School, Morpirla, and I feel immensely proud to share that I was conferred the National Award for Best Teacher in the year 2022. This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a tribute to the collective efforts of my dedicated staff, enthusiastic students, and the unwavering support of parents and the community”. It brings me great joy that my work towards the education and empowerment of tribal students has been recognised at the national level. Over the years, I have introduced several innovative teaching practices to make learning engaging and accessible for all students, especially first-generation learners. These initiatives include remote learning, online classes, house visits, a mobile library, art-integrated learning, and peer-to-peer learning, all of which have helped create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
A particularly enriching experience for me and Goan student was participating in Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC)Event in Delhi in 2023 where Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared invaluable advice. He reminded students that exams are just one of many opportunities to challenge themselves, and he encouraged them to learn time management from their mothers. He also urged parents not to pressurise their children and to foster a nurturing learning atmosphere.
In January 2025, my student Miss Nandini Velip was the only Goan student selected for Pariksha Pe Charcha 2025 and she interacted with Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The students were also invited to attend Republic Day Function and Beating Retreat adding to the excitement and inspiration.
Another memorable and touching moment was receiving a prestigious invitation from the Hon’ble President of Bharat to attend the At Home Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Center in New Delhi on Independence Day. What made it even more special was the festive delivery of the invitation by the Department of Post, whose staff braved challenging weather conditions to deliver it personally to Morpirla. This thoughtful gesture truly touched my heart and reaffirmed the value placed on education and educators.
I’ve also won the State award for best teacher in 2020 for Innovative ideas in teaching. With 36 years of teaching experience, I am proud to have led this school to achieve 100% SSC results for 9 consecutive years, a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers. At PM SHRI Government High School, Morpirla, we remain committed to nurturing leadership, fostering creativity, and empowering every child to become a confident, responsible citizen, upholding the values of India’s rich and diverse culture. Together, let us continue to inspire, innovate, and achieve.
Ms.Maria Murena Miranda
